The Atlanta Braves have picked finalists to develop the mixed-use portion of the new stadium complex in Cobb County.
AEG, owner of L.A. Live, is partnering with the Houston-based Hines Interests and Cincinnati-based North American Properties to bid on the new mixed-use portion of the new Cobb County Braves stadium complex. The other finalist in the bidding is a pair of well-knowl local developers: Fuqua Development and Pope & Land Enterprises. Fuqua Development has been making the news quite a bit here recently in Cobb County, as they recently announced that their new mixed-use development in Kennesaw, slated for opening in 2016, will be anchored by a new Whole Foods store.
The two finalists were confirmed by sources close to the process, but indicated that it would be several more weeks before the Braves make their final decision.
The biggest challenge for the new stadium complex is how to make it a viable retail and entertainment district on a year-round basis, and not just during the baseball season.
Both finalist “teams” have experience in the Atlanta area, with North American Properties serving as the operating partner for Midtown’s Atlanta Station, and Hines Interests which has developed the Ravinia Office Park by Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody.
